Shavuot 2027
A dawn walk to the Western Wall after a night of study, cheesecake, and the start of the summer water-hike season.
10 to 12 June 2027
Why people travel then
Shavuot comes seven weeks after Pesach. It marks the giving of the Torah at Sinai and the old wheat harvest, when farmers brought their first fruits to the Temple. Many people stay up all night studying, eat dairy food, and in kibbutzim and villages there are first-fruit festivals.
It is short, but it is the start of summer in Israel, and the long weekend in 2027 sends many families to the northern streams.
What you will see on the routes
- Jerusalem: A Walk Through the Old City's Four Quarters
Before dawn on 11 June thousands walk from every part of Jerusalem to the Western Wall after the night of study, for the sunrise prayer. Join them, then walk the empty Old City as it wakes.
- Mahane Yehuda and Nachlaot: The Shuk by Day and by Night
The market is at its busiest on the morning of 10 June, when Jerusalem shops for the festival meal and the cheese stalls run out by noon.
- Nahal Amud — Springs, Canyon and the Pillar Rock
June is warm on the Amud: start early from Safed or from the lower end, and finish at the springs before the heat.
- Nahal Yehudiya — The Canyon, the Ladder and the Swim
One of the Golan’s classic summer hikes with pools to swim in; on the long weekend the parking fills early.
How it changes travel
- In Israel, public transport stops from the afternoon of 10 June to nightfall on 11 June, and with Shabbat following on Friday night, services are thin until Saturday night.
- June heat: walk in the early morning, carry more water than you think, and prefer water hikes in the north.
Travel window: 10 to 12 June 2027. A one-day festival in Israel and two days abroad; it falls on a Thursday and Friday in 2027, so it joins the weekend.
