Crane migration, Hula Valley
Every autumn, hundreds of thousands of common cranes pass through the Hula Valley in northern Israel on their way between Europe and Africa, and tens of thousands stay for the winter. At Agamon Hula, a restored wetland, a flat circular trail lets you walk or cycle past flocks feeding in the fields, with herons, pelicans and storks alongside. Dawn and dusk, when the cranes fly in and out, are the most dramatic times.
