A full day at the visitor complex: out to the Apollo/Saturn V Center by bus in the morning, then Atlantis, the Rocket Garden, Gateway and an astronaut encounter back at the main campus.

- Rocket Garden & Heroes and Legends
Entrance plaza ← Heroes and Legends hall
Paved plazas
The entrance plaza is a garden of real early-era rockets — Redstone, Atlas and Titan boosters standing upright like a steel grove, the machines that carried the first Americans up. Alongside it, Heroes and Legends tells the story of the earliest missions and houses the United States Astronaut Hall of Fame. Walk it first or save it for golden hour, when the rockets glow.
- Space Shuttle Atlantis
Main plaza ← Atlantis exhibit hall
Indoor exhibit halls
The actual orbiter Atlantis — a spacecraft that flew to orbit 33 times — hangs tilted mid-flight with its payload bay doors open, close enough to see the scorched tiles. The reveal that opens the exhibit is one of the best-staged moments in any museum anywhere. The shuttle launch simulator next to it recreates the eight and a half minutes to orbit.

Coach bus and indoor halls
The heart of the visit. Buses cross the working spaceport, past active launch pads and the Vehicle Assembly Building — one of the largest buildings on Earth by volume — to a hall built around a genuine 111-meter Saturn V moon rocket lying on its side. You walk beneath it engine by engine, stage by stage, and the scale never stops being absurd. Do this first; the line builds by late morning.

The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is the visitor center at NASA's Kennedy Space Center on Merritt Island, Florida. It features exhibits and displays, historic spacecraft and memorabilia, shows, two IMAX theaters, and a range of bus tours of the spaceport. The "Space Shuttle Atlantis" exhibit contains the Atlantis orbiter and the Shuttle Launch Experience, a simulated ride into space. The center also provides astronaut training experiences, including a multi-axial chair and Mars Base simulator. The visitor complex also has daily presentations from a veteran NASA astronaut. A bus tour, included with admission, encompasses the separate Apollo/Saturn V Center. There were 1.7 million visitors to the visitor complex in 2016.

Main plaza ← Gateway building
Indoor exhibit halls
Gateway is the now-and-next building: current-era spacecraft that have actually flown, deep-space exhibits and the hardware of the return to the Moon and the push toward Mars. After a day of history it reframes the whole complex — this place is not a museum of something finished.
- IMAX & astronaut encounters
Gateway building ← IMAX theater
Paved plazas and theaters
Veteran astronauts give talks daily — real people who have been to orbit, taking questions from kids. Catch one, then finish with a space documentary on the giant IMAX screens. It is the right way to land the day.
